ANNA KENDRICK – CO-STARRING IN “UP IN THE AIR” AND “NEW MOON” DOESN’T MAKE HER LIFE PERFECT

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Co-starring in “Up in the Air” and “New Moon” doesn’t make Anna Kendrick’s life perfect. She says if people could see how often she’s close to “falling apart” they wouldn’t envy her. Kendrick says she did have a fun time working with George Clooney. She says Clooney is “very silly” and has a “teenage energy.” She says she found herself being more of the adult even though she’s half his age.

That’s too sad :(

Anna Kendrick has done what few other people in Hollywood could do — stolen scenes from George Clooney.

In “Up in the Air,” Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, a frequent-flying hatchet man, hired by other companies to fire people.

This orderly existence is threatened by Kendrick’s character Natalie, a seemingly stoic efficiency expert who plans to revamp the company.

It’s a role that has created considerable Oscar buzz for the 24-year-old actress.

It has also garnered her the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Rising Star Award, which will be presented during Tuesday’s black tie awards gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Kendrick is already a favorite among younger fans for her work in the blockbuster “Twilight” franchise, playing the dizzy friend Jessica to Kristen Stewart’s vampire-crazy Bella.

We spoke to Kendrick the morning her Golden Globe nomination was announced.

Dave Karger predicts the Oscars nominees

posted by Fram | with No Comments | in Anna News, Articles, Nominations

After scouring all the critics awards, Golden Globe and SAG nominations, I’ve come up with my predictions for who’ll get nominated in the eight main Oscar races on Feb. 2. My Best Picture picks are immediately below; the other seven categories are after the jump. In the acting races, I stuck largely with the SAG picks, which seem right to me. Except in the supporting actress category, where I think there will be more of a discrepancy. These picks are immortalized in print in EW’s Jan. 8 issue; since we still have the DGA and PGA before us, time will tell if I make any changes between now and nomination day.

Best Picture
Avatar
An Education
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Invictus
The Messenger
Precious
A Serious Man
Up
Up in the Air

Oh, how much easier this would be if there were only five Best Picture nominees this year: It’d be Up in the Air, The Hurt Locker, Avatar, Precious, and Inglourious Basterds and we’d call it a day. It’s those other five slots that are tougher to suss out.

Best Supporting Actress
Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air
Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air
Mo’Nique, Precious
Julianne Moore, A Single Man
Samantha Morton, The Messenger

Mo’Nique and Anna Kendrick have monopolized the critics’ prizes, while Kendrick’s costar Vera Farmiga also seems a good bet. The Screen Actors Guild overlooked Julianne Moore, but her boozy BFF in A Single Man should do the trick with the Academy. As Nine’s buzz continues to fade, Golden Globe and  SAG Award nominee Penélope Cruz may find herself edged out. Inglourious Basterds‘ Diane Kruger made the SAG list, but the likeliest stealth contender is The Messenger’s Samantha Morton, who has snuck in at the last minute before.

Also he predictsmore Up in the air nominations such as:
Best Actor
George Clooney, Up in the Air

Best Director
Jason Reitman, Up in the Air

Best Adapted Screenplay
Jason Reitman & Sheldon Turner, Up in the Air

Top 10 movies of 2009

“Up in the air” is in the 5th position of time.com‘s top 10 movies of 2009:

If you’re not out of work yet, you surely know someone who is. So you might be resistant to seeing a movie about a traveling man (George Clooney) whose job is to tell other people they’ve lost theirs. But he’s kind of sympathetic — he has such a friendly, caring manner that his targets often end up thanking him. And it’s a romantic comedy, with the Clooney character juggling the attentions of a fellow frequent traveler (Vera Farmiga) and a perky upstart back at company headquarters (Anna Kendrick) who wants to ground him. Cheers to director Jason Reitman, of Juno fame, for tossing a tightrope across the chasm of our national pain, then strolling across with such poise. In streamlining Walter Kirn’s novel for the screen, Reitman created a savory dish with a tart undertaste, and Clooney responded to the movie’s maturity with the most nuanced performance of his career.

Anna will be on the cover of the upcoming EW issue! Here is an article about the issue and a preview:

George Clooney is handsome and savvy, but he’s also self-aware when it comes to his ladies-man reputation. When he signed to play an eternal bachelor in his latest film, Up in the Air, directed by Jason Reitman (Juno), he immediately saw parallels between the character and himself. “Jason came to my house and brought the script and I read it,” Clooney says. “There were some things that sounded like they were taken from a Barbara Walters special that I had done. I’m not completely unaware of people’s perceptions of me. I sort of felt like, if you were ever going to deal with it, this is probably the best way to do it and the best person to do it with. If you can’t point at what people think are your shortcomings, then you’re boxing yourself in.”

He’s also particular about not allowing a body double in his films, even for the split-second shot of his thumb on a suitcase handle in Up in the Air. “I bite my cuticles so I’m always ashamed,” he admits. “But when you see somebody else’s hand come in and it’s got, like, different fingers or hairy knuckles, it doesn’t look right.”
